PHP, Ruby on Rails, Java?

October 12, 2011 – 4:02 pm

Withing the following set:

Unix/Linux / Apache
SQL
PHP
HTML
CSS
JavaScript (Ajax, jQuery)

Is the PHP best option for the programming language. I mean, I need to know it but it seems somehow old / getting obsolete etc? I am thinking about learning C in addition to that. But what about other languages like Java etc?
Thanks in advance for any info.

  2. You generally don’t make full websites with java as it is just a language for making applications or web apps. It is very good for doing that but you don’t really makes websites with it.
You need java installed on the computer to use it and it won’t work at all on an iPhone / iPad.

PHP is a very good and common language (facebook uses it) to use, C++ is also a very good language to learn but if you need to learn PHP then just master that as it can do pretty much everything you need.

There is a very common acromyn known as LAMP which is a list of free software that makes very good websites, it means:
    Linux
    Apache
    MySQL
    Php

Looks like you have the perfect setup for that

  3. it all depends what you want to do.

PHP is pretty much a scripting language for devleoping websites.

Java like Mono is a grreat langauge to learna dnwith it you can develop a great many things

C would allow you to do low level develpoment and good for networking and OS development.

the others you mention SQL is essentail of any developer. and HTML CSS and javascript are essential for any web developer.
