How to run Ubuntu while window is running?

February 17, 2012 – 4:24 pm

I installed Ubuntu last night, and I am trying to run it. Are there a way to run it while i am using window? (like switching between window and linux) or I have to reboot the computer each time I want to switch over?

  2. You could use a program like MobaLiveCD to run the .iso from within Windows. No need to restart the system or even burn a disc.

  3. You could install a virtual machine in Windows, and then you could install Ubuntu to the virtual machine. Virtualbox is one which will do it.

Otherwise, to run a different system you will need to boot out and boot back in.

  4. If you installed is as a dual-boot, (via the live CD, or WUBI) you have to restart your computer to switch between the two.

Alternatively, if you installed it as a virtual system, (via virtualbox, or another similar program) you could easily open ubuntu within a window, inside of your primary OS.

Download vm player – virtual machine …..install your ubuntu copy and you can swap between windows OS and ubuntu like swapping tabs in browsers…..

  6. I second a virtual machine. A virtual machine would run inside windows and allow you to use Ubuntu inside a window, like you said. However, I prefer VMware over virtualbox. VMware is much more efficient, and it is preferred by IT professions and large businesses.

I forget which is the free product, though.
