pop along to http://www.ubuntu.com
Download their bootable CD; and burn it to disc
Boot the system on the CD and let it run on the PC FROM CD to see if you get aloong, if OK it was an "install me now" button you can use

You shouldn’t have any problem just popping it in the disk drive and going with it. I used Umbunta and it let me be able to switch back in forth between my Microsoft and my Linux programming and it was absolutely awesome.

Use an alternative computer (Like your friend’s computer or computer shop) to download and save the OS image in a CD. Then boot the CD in your computer.
Check first your computer specifications. If you’re computer has a low in RAM, it’s not a bad idea to go with XUBUNTU. Any old computer can live with XUBUNTU.

If you’re computer has a RAM of 256 or above go for Ubuntu. Wait for their new release in 10 days. http://www.ubuntu.com/

same way you download any file. Once you get the image file from a torrent or the ubuntu the website just use Img Burn it’s a free program. once you’ve done that next time you boot up it will start the installation process. there you will have the option to creat partitions to keep your windows 98 in one piece.
