How to dual boot Windows XP and Fedora Linux (please read description)?
January 24, 2012 – 7:36 pmI have a netbook that already has Fedora 16. I want to install Windows XP and dual boot the two. Everything I have read though says to have XP installed first. My question is, is there a process for putting xp on it with Fedora on it already?

You should only need to install windows then install the grub boot loader.

It says to have XP first because it makes everything a hell of a lot easier. Why are you using Fedora anyway? Anyway, you have to create 2 partitions. One that is maybe 500 MB for swap area and the other for XP, (the rest of the free space.) Once you do that, you have to magically install XP to the partition you have created for XP. I don’t know how you would do that, because I haven’t touched Fedora for over 2-3 years now.

If you install windows after linux is installed windows will overwrite the linux bootloader (grub) and you will not be able to boot into linux. After you reinstall grub you will have the option of booting into either OS.
Check this link. The instructions are in post #11 for how to reinstall grub after windows is installed.
Good luck
