Hello, I am learning Ruby and I heard that Ruby on Rails is a bit different. I have no idea what the differences are so could someone please explain? Should I learn both or is one of them good enough?

I want to have a method in my controllers defined that returns the count of records in a users database. Is this the correct syntax? What am I doing wrong. I seem to get an error.
