Most people use PHP or Ruby on Rails in their websites. But if the purpose of your website is for documentation or showcasing some images only, like a:
- photography website
- fashion website (without Shop, just a 'collection' - e.g. Spring 2012 collection)
- portfolio
do you still need php/rails?

Basically, is it worth learning? How does it rank with Python & Django?
I ask because I am on the fence as to which to ...

After you know the essentials of programming, it is useless to trudge through textbooks that teach you what loops are, why syntax is important, and how to arrange data fields.
Is there anything like a dictionary for languages that just tell key words, special functions, methods, and oddities of a language?
For ...

I have experience with both Ruby on Rails and PHP, but I'm rusty with both. I may be looking for a new contracting job soon, and I would like to know which technology is more in demand, so I can focus my brushing-up.
